10 great reasons why you should be consuming/using coconut oil

I started increasing my healthy fat intake about a year ago by consuming half of an avocado for breakfast (along with 1-2 scrambled free range eggs cooked in a small amount of coconut oil) and one tablespoon of coconut oil in a homemade soaked large flake oatmeal and chia seed muesli for a late breakfast or pre-workout meal (with almond milk and sometimes a half of a banana or a handful of raw almonds). I also consume one tablespoon of flaxseed oil daily in a health shake (recipe on blog) to optimize my omega-3 fatty acid intake.

I love how healthy fats make me feel. They leave me feeling light and fuller for longer; and curb my carbohydrate cravings. Emotional eating is something that I have struggled with on a daily basis so I’m happy to say that healthy fats have become a satisfying brain and body-nourishing daily solution for me.

I encourage you to read the following article and think about your healthy fat intake. And try consuming/using coconut oil if you haven’t already. I love it and I think you will too.

I absolutely agree with you. I have done the same with the avocados and the coconut oil myself. Coconut oil has so many benefits like improved skin and tastes so great I think everyone should give it a try, the only downside being that it can be a little pricey. I find that Walmart and Costco are great places to find larger amounts at a good price.

I think it is ok to spend more money on healthy foods while saving money at the same time on unhealthy fats or fast food. I should use more coconut oil too but I also use flaxseed oil in my morning smoothies as it has a great balance of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids which helps when you do not eat fish or eggs. It does not taste as nice as coconut oil but along with lots of tasty fruit in the smoothie you do not taste it. Thanks for the suggestions Annika.

  3. Thanks Corinna. I agree. It’s about prioritizing. Healthy food always fits into our budget. Steve and I also love to cook so that cuts down on our temptation to eat out.
